AEGEAN carried more than 2 million passengers in July 2026 for the first time

AEGEAN recorded a new historic high in July, carrying 2,011,000 passengers within a single month, for the first time in its history.

This milestone is particularly significant given the challenging operating environment for the aviation industry. Ongoing geopolitical developments in the Middle East continue to constrain the full operation of the airline's network to the region, while aviation fuel prices have remained at elevated levels over the past five months.

Growth in passenger traffic remained well balanced between the domestic and international networks in July, with both recording an annual increase of 5.3%. Specifically, AEGEAN carried 886,000 passengers across its domestic network, operating 66 routes to 32 destinations, while the international network served 1,125,000 passengers on 154 routes to 108 destinations in 43 countries.

For the third consecutive year, the expansion of direct services from Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Rhodes to smaller domestic destinations has played a significant role in meeting the seasonal travel demand of both Greek passengers and international visitors. This summer, AEGEAN operates 38 direct routes connecting 24 destinations outside Athens, substantially reducing travel times between regional destinations. By further strengthening regional connectivity, this initiative supports the more balanced distribution of tourism flows and contributes to the sustainable growth and development of smaller destinations across Greece.

AEGEAN's Deputy CEO, Michael Kouveliotis, stated:

Our growth momentum continues in 2026 with the delivery of seven additional Airbus A321neo aircraft, despite the challenging operating environment shaped by geopolitical developments, elevated operating costs, and ongoing air traffic constraints across Europe and particularly in Greece.
Our expansion is being driven primarily by the deployment of larger, more efficient aircraft with increased seating capacity, enhancing productivity while enabling us to operate within the infrastructure constraints of our network, especially at our main hub in Athens. In July alone, the increased deployment of the new A321neo fleet enabled us to carry 4% more passengers to and from Athens with only a 1% increase in flight operations”.

AEGEAN continues, wherever operationally feasible, to optimise the distribution of its flight schedule throughout the day, reducing the concentration of flights during peak operating periods. At the same time, the Company continues to strengthen its operational resilience by investing in additional standby aircraft and crew, with higher reserve capacity in place this year than at any time in its history. 

The milestone of 2 million passengers in July confirms AEGEAN’s strong performance and its consistent commitment to responsible growth, while strengthening the country’s connectivity and continuously adapting to the increased challenges of the aviation industry.
