Tuesday, 15-04-2025

With a special event held at Larnaca International Airport "Glafcos Clerides", AEGEAN, in cooperation with Hermes Airports, celebrated the launch of its new direct flight connecting Larnaca to Rome, connecting Cyprus directly with Rome and specifically “Leonardo da Vinci – Fiumicino” airport. The new route operates every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday throughout the 2025 summer season, with initial flights already recording a strong load factor. AEGEAN also aims to maintain the route into the winter season.

This direct connecting flight to Rome offers travelers increased flexibility and access to one of Europe’s leading destinations, while reaffirming AEGEAN’s ongoing commitment to high service quality and reliability. It also further strengthens the company’s presence in the Cypriot market. Through strategic investments and the continuous upgrade of its services, AEGEAN reaffirms its commitment to enhancing Cyprus’ connectivity, creating new travel opportunities and linking the island with popular destinations.

The event was attended by passengers of the inaugural flight to Rome, which departed shortly after midday, but also by travel agents, representatives of tourism industry, AEGEAN and Hermes Airports partners, as well as media representatives, who were informed about the importance and strategic value of this new connectivity between Cyprus and Italy.

During the event, Mrs. Marina Spyridaki, Corporate Affairs Director AEGEAN, stated: “We are truly delighted to launch this new direct route, now available to the Cypriots and island’s visitors. Our goal is to continue supporting the tourism and economic growth of Cyprus by consistently enhancing the island’s year-round connectivity, through both direct routes like this one and connections via our Athens and Thessaloniki hubs. Alongside our partners at Hermes Airports, we invite everyone to embrace this new route, discover this unique travel destination and enjoy the travel experience that AEGEAN offers.”

Mrs. Maria Kouroupi, Director of Aviation Development, Marketing & Communication at Hermes Airports, added: “It is a great pleasure that we officially inaugurate a route we are confident will resonate with passengers. The new direct route between Larnaca and Rome adds more options to the growing list of non-stop popular destinations. Together with trusted partners like AEGEAN, we continue to expand Cyprus’ connectivity as we pursue new opportunities with high tourism and business potential.

It is worth noting that in 2025, AEGEAN plans a 22% increase in capacity compared to the previous year, offering a total of 1.4 million seats to and from Cyprus. This increase ensures enhanced connectivity through both direct scheduled and charter flights, as well as through AEGEAN’s hubs in Athens (serviced with up to 7 daily flights) and Thessaloniki (with up to 11 weekly flights to/from Larnaca). In addition to the restart of the Larnaca – Tel Aviv route with up to two direct flights daily, the new Larnaca – Rome route with three weekly flights further reinforces Cyprus’ direct connections to key international destinations.
