AEGEAN: Gold sponsor of the Greek Team for the European Special Olympics in Antwerp

AEGEAN transported today the Flame of Hope as well as the 74-member Greek team to Belgium
Kifisia, September 9th 2014 – Αfter its 5-days course in the Greek cities of Komotini, Kavala, Thasos, Thessaloniki and Athens, “the Flame of Hope” departed today for Brussels on the flight A3620 of AEGEAN.
AEGEAN, as a gold sponsor of Special Olympics Hellas, had the honor to carry the Flame of Hope and the 74 members of the Greek Team, which will participate in the Summer European Games 2014 Special Olympics being held in Antwerp from 9-21 of September. The members of the Greek mission will compete in nine sports, namely: Swimming, Cycling, Running, Football, 7 x 7, Judo, Badminton, Unified Ping - Pong, Unified Basketball and Bocce.
It is highlighted that in a special ceremony taking place in the forecourt of the European Parliament, the Games Organizational Committee, the President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and other European Union officials, will welcome the “Flame of Hope” that commenced its journey on the 4th of September from the Ancient Zone of Alexandroupolis. During the 9th-13th of September, a torch race will be held on the Belgian territory to end the journey in the afternoon of September 13th in Palais Stadium 12-Brussels Expo, where the opening ceremony will also be held, so as to illuminate the altar, marking the start of the Games.
AEGEAN’s CEO, Mr. Dimitris Gerogiannis, who was present in the departure ceremony of the Greek Mission in “Eleftherios Venizelos” Airport, stated: “AEGEAN, by recognizing the importance of acceptance and inclusion, supports by every means the Special Olympics Hellas, in order to be able to help people with intellectual disability to discover their special capabilities.
