December 2016 - Tribute to Epirus

For another month, we are bringing Greece even closer by offering a taste of tradition on our flights along with a look at the beauty found in every corner of the country.

Our tour of Greece continues in this last month of 2016 with a look at the verdant, northern region of historic Epirus.

The four prefectures of Arta, Ioannina, Preveza and Thesprotia are overflowing with natural wealth, countless picturesque villages, impressive gorges and rivers and people known for their hospitality.

Whether you prefer the seaside or the more rugged mountains, Epirus has it all.

Zagorohoria, Tzoumerka, Ioannina, Acherontas, Preveza and Igoumenitsa are just some of the places on the long list of where to go in Epirus.

A trip to this part of Greece is like a journey to somewhere between history and fantasy. Epirus is filled with legends and settings out of storybooks, making it the ideal destination for young and old.

This December, we will take you closer to the legends and traditions of Epirus.

Fasten your seatbelts because the journey begins in our lounges in Athens, Thessaloniki and Larnaka, which will be filled with the flavours and scents of Epirus.
Metsovone cheese, pies with wild greens or cheese and sandwiches with Epirus feta for lovers of savoury foods, and a variety of syrup sweets and chestnut or walnut spoon sweets for those with a preference for traditional sweet treats.

Once you board our planes, your trip enters a world of Epirote flavours and images. Those travelling Economy Class will get to sample Ioannina baklava and kataifi. Business Class passengers will enjoy the following menu selections: Spit-roasted Epirus pork with wild Pindos Mountain mushrooms, sage-flavoured potatoes with onions and smoked Metsovone cheese, or stewed cockerel with boiled greens, Metsovo noodles and myzithra cheese. Both can be paired with Epiloges Zitsa 2015 wine.
