About Aegean's Approved Training Organization [ATO]


“Aegean Training” is an approved, by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), training organization [ATO] which provides type rating training on the Airbus A320, ATR 42/72 and DHC8 series aircraft and fully complies with EASA regulations.

Aegean Training ATO operates as a separate entity within the Aegean Group, while its instructor team consists of highly experienced Aegean and Olympic Air pilots. The primary task of Aegean Training ATO is to meet the aviation needs of Aegean and Olympic Air, as well as to provide training services to third parties.

Type Rating


Aegean Training ATO provides theoretical, simulator and aircraft training for A320, ATR 42/72 and DHC8 series aircraft and it offers the following courses:
  • Type Rating Course
  • Type Rating Revalidation and Renewal

The Type Rating courses are designed to enable students to operate the related type safely and efficiently in accordance with both manufacturers’ and Aegean / Olympic Air's operating procedures and thus qualify for the issuance of a type rating.

All theoretical training takes place in Aegean Training ATO in Building 53 of Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos”, while the simulator training is conducted mainly abroad, by Aegean Training ATO Instructors/Examiners.

Type Rating Phases and Duration


This Course has a duration of about 9 calendar weeks and is structured as shown below:
  • Systems/Theory Training under the supervision and guidance of a Theoretical Knowledge Instructor
  • Aircraft Performance 
  • Cockpit Drills (Simulator Preparation in Aegean / Olympic Air aircraft Cockpit)
  • Procedural Trainer (Preparation in procedures using static simulator)
  • Full Flight Simulator
  • Takeoff and Landing Training (Conducted in Aegean / Olympic Air aircraft)

Type Rating Course Trainee Prerequisites


The prerequisites listed below are the minimum required prior to joining a type rating course:
  • At least 70 hours as pilot in command of aeroplanes
  • Valid multi-engine IR(A) rating
  • Valid CPL(A) with ATPL(A) theory completed or a valid ATPL(A)
  • Certificate of satisfactory completion of an MCC course
  • Fluent in English and have an English level 4 according to ICAO requirements
  • Certificate of satisfactory completion of the training course specified in FCL.745.A (Advanced UPRT course - aeroplanes)**

**This requirement applies to applicants for the issue of their first type rating course for a multi-pilot aeroplane.
